Dear editor,

The taxpayers of Walker County should be outraged about the walking trail they are building from downtown Chickamauga to the Chickamauga Military Battlefield Park. They are going to spend $500,000 dollars on this project.

We do not need this trail. There are plenty of walking trails in the Chickamauga Park and two walking trails already in Chickamauga. Very few people use these trails.

Thanks to Robbie Robinson for voting no at the council meeting.

When you go to the polls to vote, remember who is doing all the unnecessary spending! We need jobs and job creation in these hard times – not walking trails.

For once, think about the citizens and taxpayers of Walker County and spend this money on something that will help everyone. Shame on you!

Pat Wafford, Chickamauga

$500,000 on walking trails, are they loosing their minds? I mean come on, that cash could go to better use than walking trails that only a handful of people will use. I could see upgrading the playgrounds, or something that would be used by alot more people. Or at least something educational for the kids. A natural history center, science center, or something. There's only so much that can be taught about the civil war and the battle of Chickamauga.

They could supply "donations" of new equipment to the high school football teams in exchange for volunteer work to get the trails done. And I'm sure that any supplies needed to complete the trail could easily be donated by local people/businesses. Those donating can write it off on their taxes.

Maybe we need some new blood in the council, I think they have begun to loose their common sense, and from here on out it's only a downhill run.
