The Chickamauga mayor and council have removed the interim designation for acting police chief Michael Haney.

In a special called meeting last week, Haney, who had served as acting chief since May, was appointed full-time chief after a unanimous vote.

Haney, who has been with the department for 10 years, said he was “relieved” with the final decision.

Former police chief Jerry Parrish had resigned from duty in August after nine years as Chickamauga chief.

Haney had been serving as acting chief after a May accident in which Parrish overturned a golf cart and sustained leg fractures. Parrish, who admitted to drinking a couple of beers before the accident while off-duty, cited a “prognosis of reduced mobility” for his decision to resign.

Haney, 35, graduated from Gordon Lee High School in 1992. He has been married to his wife Lori for five years.
