A lot happened in 2003. The county celebrated its 150th anniversary, while the pace of growth remained steady with the Catoosa school system breaking ground on a new elementary school and middle school. Businesses continued to spring up at a steady rate, drawing Fort Oglethorpe and Ringgold city limits ever closer together.
We saw war declared on Iraq and the eventual arrest of its leader, Saddam Hussein, the explosion of space shuttle Columbia on its return to earth, and the conviction of Washington, D.C. area snipers Lee Boyd Malvo and John Allen Muhammad. Our faltering national economy also began to show the first tentative signs of a rebound.

You’ll find an overview of what Fort Oglethorpe, Ringgold, and county officials accomplished, plus personal profiles of a broad cross section of Catoosa’s populace — elected officials, standout community volunteers, business leaders and others drawn from all walks of life.
The new year will surely be every bit as eventful as 2003.
Voters will go to the polls to elect a president and fill several congressional seats. Locally, several key races will take place, including sheriff, coroner and seats on the Catoosa Board of Commissioners.
