Dear editor:

I would like for all your readers to know that they now sell alcohol at the LaFayette golf course, thanks to a majority vote, 3-2, by the City Council. LaFayette now has a bar.

I am saddened by this and I am trying to at least get the council to vote that you either have to drink it on the course or in a special area set aside away from the mainstream, not in the restaurant or rockers out front.

I don’t like sitting down eating a burger or snack, with someone else sitting there drink-ing beer, and I don’t want my son in that atmosphere.

If you agree with me, I ask you to show up at the next City Council meeting on Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Please don’t sit idly by and do nothing. Tell others to call the councilmen and show up at the meeting. If you would like, you may call me at (706) 638-1400.

Ray Nix, LaFayette

But as the days of No-e were, so shall the coming of the Son of man be.

For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that No-e entered into the ark.

And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. St.Matthew 24:37-39

People should stop this arguements, and put more thought into am I right with God?. What most churches teach today is so far from the teachings of Jesus. The Holy Bible has been changed so many times and the word of God removed so it is better understood. The Holy Bible is not hard to understand, when the Holy Spirit is our teacher. It was ment to be hard to understand, because Jesus wanted only his true followers to understand His teachings. If we love Jesus with all our heart, the Holy Spirit will come in and lead us too Jesus.

I will not say it is a sin to drink alcohal, I will say is we need to wake up and realize that Jesus's coming it near, and we need to stop thanking about what golf course, or restaurant

is or is not able to sell.

Look around, can't you see the changes in this world that is showing us that it is close to the END OF TIME. And if you smirk at my words or me, you also smirk at Jesus.

Remember St.Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,ye have done it unto me.

I love you all. But it is Jesus we need to be trying to get out to people.

Jesus is coming

Thank goodness there are some reasonable people who have already responded to you. Being new to the area, I was shocked at my first visit to Lafayette. There is nothing there!! Allowing an adult to purchase and consume an alcoholic beverage in a public place, where food is served, does not make such place a "bar". I have never played at a golf course that did not allow or sell beer to those over the age of 21. It is not a crime or shameful to drink a cold beer either on the golf course or after a round of golf. You might find that you had more choices of where to eat out if you and others like you got off of your high horse and allowed adults to have the choice of having a beverage with their meal.

Do you really think this is a bar? Do you really think the “Rich and Shameless” that play golf there would allow it to become a “Public bar” and ruin their new $$$ club house? Wake up Mc Fly! Yes Ray, the councilmen could vote this out. Of course, then we can vote them out. I’m sure you and a few others would like LaFayette to remain the quiet little town from the 50's it once was and close all the stores on Sunday, and so on. But, if you haven't noticed...this town is DYING!!! Most of the mills are gone, the stores are closing. Why you ask? Because we (the city) have made some bad decisions in the past and have failed to retain or encourage expansion. I don’t play golf and seldom drink alcohol. But, when I go out to dinner I may have one mixed drink and drop $50-$65.00 in a restaurant in Ringgold or Fort Oglethorpe. If I buy a bottle of liquor my $30-$50 goes to Tennessee. Even with the economic slowdown, people will still go out to eat and the “chain” restaurants have made it clear they will not come to Lafayette without being able to serve alcohol. In 1989, the city of Linwood (the city was inside the North West section of LaFayette) was going broke and could not continue to provide services to the citizens required by law to remain a city. They allowed the people to vote on liquor to be sold in stores, not by the drink in bars. The projected revenue due to the location (None of North AL, Lafayette, north to Chattanooga, south to Rome, and east to Dalton were liquor is sold) was in the millions! Well, the people voted it down. They did not want to change and did not like other people telling them what to do. During 1990-1992 the city went under and was absorbed by the city of LaFayette. Selling alcohol doesn’t mean more people will start drinking, it means the people that do, and will continue to buy it, will now spend their money in Lafayette not Ringgold, Fort Oglethorpe or Tennessee. You can choose to evolve and make changes, or cease to exist.

WELL IT IS ABOUT TIME PEOPLE IN LAFAYETTE STAND UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS, NOW WE NEED TO STOP THE HARRASSMENT TOWARD THE SMOKERS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE HIGHER TAXES.

I would describe a bar as a place to go to have a drink and watch sports. The sole reason for the place would be to sell alcohol. A real bar is for people over the age of 21.

What you are describing is NOT A BAR, it is just a normal Golf course. Most Golf Course's across the USA sell beer.

You have lived a secluded life and need to get out more. Go to Atlanta, Nashville, or heck go wild and go to San Francisco CA you will find out what real bars are and come home and laugh at your own statements.

Well Ray you had better stay at home and lock your doors because if you look close the next time you are at the local mapco or at Wal-mart people in La Fayette drink BEER. In most major cities you will find restaurants that will serve you a BEER or mixed drink with your dinner. A golfer that wants to enjoy a cold BEER with his game of golf is not the end of the world. I am sure that the golf course has rules and regulations for how and when they can serve people the BEER. I am not a Beer drinker myself but I have lots of family and friends that enjoy a nice cold beer on a hot day.

It's about time La Fayette caught up with 2009 and started approving permits that have been approved by many other towns in many other states.

A beer or two/or a cocktail or two during a round of golf does not mean that the City will rot. It is a personal responsibility thing. People are adults and Ray life will go on. I will now reconsider playing in LaFayette instead of Brainerd, where I usually play.
