A huge third-quarter run was more than enough to help the Chattanooga Valley Middle School Eagles claim a 58-34 win over Ringgold on Thursday night in the last home game of the year for the Maroon-and-White.

An 8-0 first-quarter run gave the Eagles a 14-5 lead, but the Tigers countered with seven unanswered points and began the second half down by just four, 16-12.

Chattanooga Valley would extend their lead to as many as 10 in the second quarter before settling for a 28-20 lead at intermission.

Ringgold would chop the lead down to 28-23 in the early stages of the third quarter, but two transition lay-ups by Marquie Davis, three-pointers by Markeion Jones and Markeith Montgomery, and an offensive put-back by Mitchell Thomas, highlighted a 14-0 run by the Eagles that would give them control of the game for good.

Three free throws by Brandon Hair with five seconds left in the quarter boosted the lead to 45-25, and the teams would empty their benches midway through the fourth. The Chattanooga Valley reserves would push the lead to as many as 29 points in the final four minutes.

Jones finished with a game-high 22 points. Montgomery had 10 points and Davis nine in the win. Jensen Schon had 13 for the Tigers, 11 in the first half, while Drew Cantrell added nine.

In the girls' game, the Lady Tigers outscored Chattanooga Valley in the second quarter, 13-4, and stretched out their lead from there en route to a 40-23 win.

Ringgold led 21-11 at halftime before boosting their advantage to 37-19 by the end of the third quarter.

Dare Schley had 21 points and was the only Lady Tiger in double figures. Te'a Owens had nine points for Chattanooga Valley, while Grayson James added six.

Both teams will take part in the NGAC tournament, which begins Monday at Heritage Middle School.
