ENTERTAINMENT · The Chattanooga Salvation Army 614 Corps is expanding its ReCreate Café Arts Program by producing the musical “Godspell” with a blended cast of performers from both the Homeless and Housed parts of the local community. ReCreate Café has joined forces with theatre professors from Covenant College and UTC to create a unique production that opens Wednesday, July 18, and ends Sunday, July 22. Performances will be held at ReCreate Café inside The Salvation Army 614 Corps at 800 McCallie Avenue. Show dates and times are 7:30 p.m. July 18-21 at and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22. Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students. COMMUNITY · Seniors and Friends of Fort Oglethorpe will meet Wednesday, July 18, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Constitution Hall on Forrest Road. COMMUNITY · Kristin Nalley, in association with The Colonnade in Ringgold, will offer dance classes on Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. through Wednesday, July 25. ENTERTAINMENT · Tickets to attend Lauren Alaina's October concert at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton went on sale at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Tickets may be purchased at the trade center box office. Alaina is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5. General admission to the concert is $15. RELIGIOUS · Chattooga Baptist Church will host "Amazing Wonders Aviation" vacation bible school Sunday, July 15 through Friday July 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 5:45 p.m. to children age 18 and younger Monday through Thursday. Friday night commencement will be held followed by family fun time at the fellowship hall. Class ages are preschool through teens. COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · Applications for the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute’s (CWLI) 5th Annual Women Mentoring Women program are due Friday, July 20. The Women Mentoring Women program consists of eight 2-hour lunchtime sessions designed to aid women in developing or sharpening their mentoring skills so they can go back into the community and mentor other women. The goal is to encourage women to utilize their talents and experience to help each other and to aid in the growth of women in positions of civic and business leadership within the community. Each session will be led by recognized local women who will present on topics such as understanding communication styles, team building, political savviness, and the use of power, authority and influence in the workplace. Eight historic cottages will be open, located within the Assembly’s grounds (Monteagle, Tenn.), as well as the auditorium and gymnasium built in 1883. Bazaar shopping, a variety of lunch options, and the bake sale will take place on the shady mall.
