COMMUNITY · Ruby Falls is partnering with Blood Assurance to receive blood donations at the attraction this Friday, June 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in honor of the “Ruby” anniversary for Blood Assurance (40 years this month). Any blood donors receive a free ice cream treat as part of the Ice Cream Festival at Ruby Falls, as well as a Ruby Falls souvenir. And as always, Blood Assurance provides free snacks and a T-shirt to all who donate.

ENTERTAINMENT · The Riverbend Festival is ongoing and continues through Sunday, June 17 on the 21st Century Waterfront along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. Bands ranging from classic rock, jam bands, country, urban and bluegrass will perform. Riverbend draws more than 650,000 patrons annually. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · “Serving up Summer” summer food program runs through Friday, Aug. 24. Lunch for children ages infant-17 will be served from noon-1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at LaFayette 1st United Methodist Church, 301 South Main Street; and from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Second Baptist Church, 500 West Main Street in LaFayette; and from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday at the LaFayette Housing Authority, 300 Oak Street. The program is sponsored by North Georgia YMCA and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and is funded through a USDA grant.

COMMUNITY · A Walker County Candidate Town Hall will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Walker County Civic Center off Highway 27 in Rock Spring. The event is free to the public. All candidates appearing on the July 31 ballot, regardless of political party, are invited to participate. Concerned Citizens for an Informed Electorate is organizing the town hall. CCFIE is a non-partisan organization dedicated to demanding ethics, responsibility and accountability from elected officials by providing the citizens of Walker County, Georgia, access to the platforms, assertions, and convictions of candidates for public office through education, information, and public forums. COMMUNITY · The 76th annual Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17, at the 18-hole LaFayette Golf Course. Entry fee is $125 and includes cart fees for both days. COMMUNITY · Gateway Mall in Fort Oglethorpe will host Military Appreciation Day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 16. Military units and vehicles used in Iraq and Afghanistan will be displayed, along with a mobile exhibit from the Sixth Cavalry Museum and exhibits by Fort Oglethorpe fire and police. Enjoy music, games and activities for the kids.The mall is on Cloud Springs Road, just off of I-75 at exit 353. A surprise guest is scheduled to arrive in the early afternoon.

COMMUNITY · Noble Fellowship Church will hold a public auction at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16. Items to be auctioned include a 1974 Corvette Stingray (no reserve), furniture, appliances, household goods, electronics and more. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga have joined to offer a series of free, monthly historical bike tours through Chickamauga Battlefield. The public is invited to bring their bicycles on Saturday, June 16. Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and taller at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for loaner bicycles are required; call the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241. Ride length is approximately three to four miles on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The rides are appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets. Additional battlefield bicycle tours are scheduled for July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, and Oct. 20.

This session is for first-time dads who want to learn more about the upcoming new addition in their family.
