A Chickamauga man was cited for a hit-and-run with a fixed object in Fort Oglethorpe after, police say, he ran over a mailbox and fled the scene.

The collision took place at about 1 p.m. Friday, June 1, on Gilbert Street in Fort Oglethorpe, reports show.

Later that afternoon, at about 4 p.m. officers caught up with Chad Shaye Clowers, 28, of Crest Drive in Chickamauga and cited him for the destruction of the mailbox.

The owner of the mailbox told police that a 1990s model Chevrolet Camaro ran over the mailbox, left the scene, and was believed to be at a residence on Howard Drive.

“I went to the residence and saw a car that matched the suspect’s description, so I knocked on the door and asked to speak with the offender,” officer Jeff Holcomb wrote in the report. “The offender (Clowers) came to the door and admitted to hitting the mailbox and driving off.”
