Ringgold native Luke List nearly made it back-to-back wins on the PGA’s Nationwide Tour this past weekend, finishing one shot behind former University of Georgia All-American Hudson Swafford at the Stadion Classic at the UGA course.

Swafford finished 90 minutes before the final group after carding a sparkling 9-under par 62. His Sunday charge was completed after he holed out for birdie from a greenside bunker on the final hole of the day and the tour rookie finished the tournament with a 17-under total of 267. He began the day five shots out of the lead.

“I couldn’t see it. I heard it hit the pin and then I heard everybody just go nuts,” Swafford told PGATour.com. “When I went up there and saw it had disappeared I blacked out to be honest. To hole out a bunker shot to win a golf tournament is amazing.”

Swafford’s 62 was enough to fend off List and two-time U.S. Open champion, Lee Janzen. List won his first Nationwide event, the South Georgia Classic in Valdosta, a week earlier, and Janzen, the two-time U.S. Open champion, recorded birdies of seven of his last eight holes for a tournament record 29 on the backside and a tie for second place with List.

List was tied for the lead after a birdie at No. 17, but an errant tee shot into the trees on No. 18 would hurt him. His second shot from the right rough caught more tree limbs and traveled just 40 yards. He eventually had to settle for a bogey.

However, List’s second-place finish netted him a check for $48,400 and moved him past Andres Gonzales and into first place on the money list. The Top 25 on the money list at the end of the season will earn their 2013 PGA Tour card.

Florida’s Billy Horschel (68) was fourth, third-round leader Tyrone Van Aswegen (70) was fifth and Jim Herman was sixth.
