COMMUNITY · Casey and Son Horseshoeing School will hold its 23rd annual spring fling and open house through May 6. This family event is free to horse owners and will help visitors learn what best suits them and their horses. Free trimming and shoeing will be offered. Other services offered include dentistry, massage, saddle fit, magnetic therapy, hoof repair, nutrition information and evaluations from head to hoof using a thermal image camera. COMMUNITY · Walker County residents are invited to the Rossville Public Library at 6 p.m. May 3 to learn how to access free subscriptions to GED, ACT and SAT preparation materials, personalized resume building software, practice AP exams, subject tutorials for elementary, middle and high school and much more.

EDUCATION · Naomi Elementary School will be featured in a one-hour documentary on “Spotlight on Schools” from 4 to 5 p.m. May 3 on local cable channel UCTV: North Georgia Comcast 265, Charter 5 and Chattanooga Com-cast 96.

COMMUNITY · Walker County Emergency Services will offer a free “Introduction to Babysitting Safety” class for ages 12-18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 3. COMMUNITY · The first Whitfield Oil Co. Trojan Run (5K run/walk) will be held Saturday, May 5, at 8 a,m, in Chickamauga. The WOC Trojan Run is a certified 5K course starting at the Gordon Lee High School baseball fields and winding throughout historic Chickamauga. Registration is $25 prior to race day and $30 on the day of the event. Register online at active.com (keyword: Trojan) or on Facebook at “Trojan Run, 5K Run/Walk.” There will be a pre-race event Friday, May 4, from 6-10 p.m. at Gordon Lee High School with race pre-registration, cook-out ($7 adults $3 kids), live entertainment featuring Chris McDaniel followed by The Gravel Road Band and plenty of inflatables for the kids. There will also be a free kids’ 1 mile fun run for children kindergarten through 5th grade. The event is sponsored by Whitfield Oil Company and hosted by the Gordon Lee High School Alumni Association benefiting scholastic and extracurricular programs in the Chickamauga City school system. COMMUNITY · First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe will hold a rummage sale Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, beginning at 8 a.m. Items for sale will include furniture, bicycles, exercise equipment, electronics, household items, clothes and more. EDUCATION · May 4 is the deadline for the lottery drawing for Walker County Schools pre-kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year. COMMUNITY · Four Points, Inc., is sponsoring its first annual Mother-Son Dance at the Chickamauga Civic Cen-ter Friday, May 4, at 6 p.m. This event is open to the public and the cost is $5 per person. Tickets are available in advance by calling Four Points, Inc., at 706-638-1555 or at the door. Corsages, light refreshments, photographer and a raffle with prizes will be available for attendees. Dress up or dress down – it doesn’t matter. Just come and enjoy your son, grandson, step-son, or foster son. All ages are welcome.

ENTERTAINMENT · A gospel concert and dinner will be held May 4 at Tiger Creek Elementary to benefit the American Cancer Society. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the Greesons, the Jeff Hullender Family and the Park City Boys.

COMMUNITY · Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care will co-sponsor a pet adopt-a-thon May 4-6. Seven organizations and rescue groups will bring hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats to Petsmart on Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga Friday, May 4, from 12-8 p.m., Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, May 6, from 12-6 p.m. The mini-mum adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $25 for cats. Each adoptable pet has been spayed or neutered and has re-ceived age-appropriate vaccines. Food and refreshments, children’s games and prizes will be available. The or-ganizations aim to get 250 animals adopted over the weekend.

ENTERTAINMENT · Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Princess Ida” will be presented by the CSPHEA Homeschool Play-ers Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 5, at 6 p.m., at The Colonnade Theatre. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children 4 and under.

COMMUNITY · This year’s Local Birth and Baby Fair, brought to you by Chattanooga Mama, will showcase over 35 vendors, including childbirth practitioners, health care providers, educators, doulas, local merchants, and more. The event, held May 5 at the Brainerd Crossroads BX in Chattanooga, is free to the public and offers over a dozen classes and door prizes, including a free crib from Children’s Fair, kids activities, and cotton tote bags filled with samples for expectant and breastfeeding mothers, newborns, and children for the first 200 families who attend. COMMUNITY · The Paradise Garden Foundation announces that Finster Fest will be held this year at Dowdy Park May 5 and 6 in Summerville. What began as Howard Finster Day in Summerville in the early 1980s has become internationally known as Finster Fest. one of north Georgia’s most popular folk art and music festivals. Finster Fest 2012 will be host to performing acts such as Roger Allen Wade, Patterson Hood of the Drive by Truckers and many others. COMMUNITY · Western Masonic Lodge #91 of LaFayette will hold their annual spring outing Saturday, May 5. There will be live music, an auction of new and used items, and hamburgers and hot dogs for sale. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is looking for volunteers to participate in living history programs presented this summer. These volunteers will help the park staff in the interpretation, demonstration, and maintenance of Civil War era artillery. Volunteers are being recruited to undergo training which will enable them to be an actual part of an artillery crew which will fire these pieces during demonstrations this summer and fall. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age, and attend and successfully complete several training sessions. These training sessions will begin May 5, and include several additional training sessions. COMMUNITY · The American Legion will hold a yard sale Saturday, May 5, beginning at 9 a.m., at the American Legion Older Americans building next to the ball fields in Chickamauga. The Chattanooga Valley Lions Club will sell Vidalia onions at the yard sale both days. The onions are priced at 5 lbs for $5, 10 lbs for $10, and 25 lbs for $20.
