COMMUNITY · Casey and Son Horseshoeing School will hold its 23rd annual spring fling and open house through May 6. This family event is free to horse owners and will help visitors learn what best suits them and their horses. Free trimming and shoeing will be offered. COMMUNITY · The first Whitfield Oil Co. Trojan Run (5K run/walk) will be held Saturday, May 5, at 8 a,m, in Chickamauga. The WOC Trojan Run is a certified 5K course starting at the Gordon Lee High School baseball fields and winding throughout historic Chickamauga. Registration is $25 prior to race day and $30 on the day of the event. There will also be a free kids’ 1 mile fun run for children kindergarten through 5th grade. COMMUNITY · Four Points, Inc., is sponsoring its first annual Mother-Son Dance at the Chickamauga Civic Cen-ter Friday, May 4, at 6 p.m. This event is open to the public and the cost is $5 per person. ENTERTAINMENT · A gospel concert and dinner will be held May 4 at Tiger Creek Elementary to benefit the American Cancer Society. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the Greesons, the Jeff Hullender Family and the Park City Boys.

COMMUNITY · Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care will co-sponsor a pet adopt-a-thon May 4-6. Seven organizations and rescue groups will bring hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats to Petsmart on Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga Friday, May 4, from 12-8 p.m., Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, May 6, from 12-6 p.m. The mini-mum adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $25 for cats. Each adoptable pet has been spayed or neutered and has re-ceived age-appropriate vaccines. Food and refreshments, children’s games and prizes will be available. The or-ganizations aim to get 250 animals adopted over the weekend.

ENTERTAINMENT · Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Princess Ida” will be presented by the CSPHEA Homeschool Play-ers Friday, May 4, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 5, at 6 p.m., at The Colonnade Theatre. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children 4 and under.

COMMUNITY · The Paradise Garden Foundation announces that Finster Fest will be held this year at Dowdy Park May 5 and 6 in Summerville. What began as Howard Finster Day in Summerville in the early 1980s has become internationally known as Finster Fest. one of north Georgia’s most popular folk art and music festivals. Finster Fest 2012 will be host to performing acts such as Roger Allen Wade, Patterson Hood of the Drive by Truckers and many others. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is looking for volunteers to participate in living history programs presented this summer. These volunteers will help the park staff in the interpretation, demonstration, and maintenance of Civil War era artillery. Volunteers are being recruited to undergo training which will enable them to be an actual part of an artillery crew which will fire these pieces during demonstrations this summer and fall. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age, and attend and successfully complete several training sessions. These training sessions will begin May 5, and include several additional training sessions. The Chattanooga Valley Lions Club will sell Vidalia onions at the yard sale both days. The onions are priced at 5 lbs for $5, 10 lbs for $10, and 25 lbs for $20.
