Chevrolet recognized the local family-owned business on the storm’s one-year anniversary, Friday, April 27. Chevrolet executives presented owner Danny Jackson and his son, general manager Ryan Jackson, with the company’s Mark of Excellence 2011 award and honored the dealership for rebuilding according to General Motors guidelines.
“We reopened the following Tuesday after the storm (on Wednesday, April 27, 2011),” Danny Jackson said. “Our showroom was torn up. We worked out of a trailer for a time. We just kept going.”
Jackson said the dealership sustained more than $1 million in damages due to the category F4 tornado. Still, he says no one among his family or staff was hurt. Jackson said fortunately no one was inside the dealership when the tornado hit. The storm bulldozed through Ringgold on a Wednesday, he recalled, and he and his staff managed to clean up debris by that Sunday. Jackson said he continued to pay his workers through the tornado’s aftermath.
“They knew they still had a job,” he said.
Jackson said the community came together to rebuild after the storm.
“We had so many great volunteers that helped us out,” he said.
Chevrolet district sales manager Ted Bortner said the company’s Mark of Excellence award is based on a dealership’s sales volume and customer satisfaction performance.
“They were in the top 15 percent of dealers in our region,” Chevrolet zone manager Kent Borough said.
The dealership’s sales increased 300 percent in May 2011 as compared to sales in May 2010, according to Jackson.
