A Chattanooga woman was arrested in Fort Oglethorpe after she allegedly attempted to steal nearly $150 worth of merchandise from the Rugged Wearhouse on Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Aquilla Lajan Smith, 20, of Poplar Street Court in Chattanooga, Tenn., was arrested March 19 for shoplifting.

Officers responded to the Rugged Wearhouse at 791 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) in regards to a report of a theft in progress.

“After talking with store employees, I learned that the offender took several items and concealed them in her empty purse,” officer Ray Bowman wrote in the report.

Several articles of clothing, two pairs of shoes, and assorted jewelry were among the items seized at the time of Smith’s arrest.

“The merchandise was recovered and turned over to store authorities,” Bowman said.
