COMMUNITY · The Walker County Historical Society will meet at the Marsh House at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb-ruary 26. The program on the history of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette will be presented by Marilyn Ransom, a retired teacher from Walker County Schools, who holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and Berry Col-lege. She has been a member of LaFayette First Baptist Church since 1948 and has been a Sunday school teacher for many of those years. She is knowledgeable about local history and is a member of Friends of the Marsh House. The public is invited.

CHURCH · Bethesda Baptist Church on Ga. 151 in LaFayette will hold a revival Feb. 26-29. Troy Simmons will preach. Sunday night service is at 6 p.m.; Monday through Wednesday services are at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited. Call 706-537-9200 for more information.

COMMUNITY · The Obedience Club of Chattanooga, 4 miles south of Chattanooga on Ga. 193 in Flintstone, will hold registration for obedience, rally, and agility classes for puppies and dogs on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 1-3 p.m. Agility I and II Fundamentals (Indoors) will now be offered. Bring a copy of shot records to registration. During registration, various OCC dog/handler teams will present training demonstrations. Classes begin on Monday night, Feb. 27. COMMUNITY · The Chattanooga Valley Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is holding a fam-ily history open house on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Family history consultants can help you trace your an-cestors using the church’s free software tools (FamilySearch.org). Just bring whatever information you may have (names, dates, places) and we’ll help you get started on your own family tree – or find that missing piece of the puz-zle. We are located at 4226 N. EDUCATION · Walker County Schools will begin accepting applications for pre-kindergarten classes for the 2012-2013 school year March 1. Applications will be available at Cherokee Ridge Elementary, Fairyland Elemen-tary, Gilbert Elementary, Naomi Elementary, North LaFayette Elementary, Rock Spring Elementary, Rossville Elementary and the Department of Education at 201 S. Duke Street in LaFayette beginning March 1, 2012. Appli-cants must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, and be legal residents of Georgia. COMMUNITY · The Brown Bag Book Club will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the LaFayette-Walker County Pub-lic Library. This month’s featured book is “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. Anyone with a love of reading should come to this event. The book for March will be “Room” by Emma Donoghue.

COMMUNITY · U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-9) has announced a series of Catoosa County Days as part of his 9th Congressional District county connection program. A constituent services representative from Graves’ office will be available to meet with local constituents Feb. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. The constituent services representative will be available at the County Administrative Building, 800 Lafayette Street, Ringgold. Staff members are trained to assist Georgians with casework, questions and concerns pertaining to federal programs or policy issues. The remaining meeting days for 2012 are April 24, June 19, Aug. 14, Oct. 9 and Dec. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m.

COMMUNITY · The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission’s area agency advisory council will hold its January business meeting Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Sarah Hightower Regional Library in the Coosa Room, from 10 a.m. to noon. The meeting is open to the public.
