A Chattanooga, Tenn., man was arrested for driving intoxicated in Fort Oglethorpe after he allegedly hit a parked vehicle in while driving around a grocery store parking lot waiting for a friend to finish shopping.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Robert Dale Young Jr., 30, of 4005 Cleo Avenue in Chattanooga, Tenn., was arrested Monday, Feb. 13, for DUI af-ter he allegedly crashed into another vehicle while attempting to pull into a parking space.

Young remained Monday in the Catoosa County jail.

In addition to the DUI charge, holds were placed on Young by the Rossville Police Department and the Hamilton County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office stemming from previous felonies.

Young was driving a 1995 Ford Aerostar mini van through the parking lot of Sav-A-Lot at 2491 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) when he struck a 2011 Toyota Camry, according to witnesses.

Young was originally waiting in the parking lot on a friend who was in the store shopping, when he decided to drive around the parking lot, reports show.

“Upon my arrival, the victim and witnesses identified Young as the driver of the vehicle,” officer Jeff Holcomb wrote in the report. “I … smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him. He also told me that he had been taking hydrocodone.”

An alco-sensor test was administered and Young tested positive for alcohol, reports show.

“He (Young) was very unsteady on his fee, and could not maintain his balance without leaning against the car,” Holcomb said.
