This time of the year, a lot of people start thinking about their tax returns. Whether we are ready to start working on our taxes or not, this is one job we will all be faced with over the next few months.

Completing farm tax returns can be complicated, especially with changes in tax laws. We have just received a supply of the IRS Publication 225, Farmer’s Tax Guide. Of course, these are free to anyone who would like to pick up a copy at the Walker County Extension Service office.

This publication is available annually to help farmers understand the new tax changes. The publication includes sections on self-employment taxes, retirement plans, soil and water conservation expenses, your rights as a taxpayer and much more.

I am sure that income taxes are not the first thing on everyone’s list right now, but those interested in this publication should drop by the Walker County Extension Office at 102 E. Napier Street in LaFayette to get a free copy while supplies last.

Norman Edwards is coordinator of Walker County Extension Service.
