A trio of Walker County youth wrestlers made the home folks proud at the Dixie Nationals in Atlanta on Dec. 29.

Garrison Dendy, Ethan Dendy, and Jacob Mariakis all advanced to the finals of their respective age and weight classes while Garrison Dendy and Mariakis brought home championship trophies.

Garrison Dendy was crowned champion in the eight-and-under, 60-pound class. The top seed went 4-0 in the tournament with two pins and two major decisions.

Mariakis was the top seed in the 12-and-under, 80-pound division and won the title by going 5-0 with two pins and three minor decisions.

Ethan Dendy, a two-time North Georgia Athletic Conference middle school champion, was the top seed in the 14-under, 85-pound class, but suffered a 4-2 overtime loss in the semifinals.

He came back to place third, going 4-1 with two pins and two minor decisions.
