Two men have been charged with murder in connection with a Saturday morning slaying in Gordon County.

Brent Damon Carey, 28, of 415 Old Boone Ford Road, Calhoun, and Claude Travis Simpson, 33, of 330 Cedar Hill Drive, Calhoun, are each charged with felony murder and armed robbery.

The victime was Jason David Hammond, 42, of 394 Union Grove Church Road.

One man is still being sought by GBI agents and sheriff's detectives.

The sheriff's office has reason to believe the homicide is a drug-related, isolated event.

According to Gordon County sheriff Mitch Ralston:

Hammond was shot Saturday, Nov. 5, about 2 a.m. when three black males came inside his house and demanded money, according to witnesses. Hammond’s body was found inside the house.

The witnesses said the men were driving a Kia Sedona van. One person was taken into custody and police located the van. Another man was then taken into custody. A third suspect is being sought.

The body has been sent to the state crime lab. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case.
