Eight hours after the release of Lauren Alaina’s debut album, “Wildflower,” the young Season 10 “American Idol” runner-up got the news that her tunes had soared straight to No. 1 on iTunes' Top 10 country album downloads.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, Alaina, who is from Rossville, will sign autographs at Wal-Mart in Fort Oglethorpe, 3040 Battlefield Parkway, from 1-3 p.m.

Alaina’s CD hit the shelves Tuesday, Oct. 11, but sold out quickly. She was hoping for a great review, but was sur-prised at how quickly things fell into place.

“I was sitting in the hair and makeup room getting ready for 'Good Morning, America' when my mom ran in and told me it was No. 1,” Lauren said in a phone interview from New York City. “I had just finished my foundation, and I got so excited that I almost took the makeup off. I didn’t know it would happen in eight hours.”

Alaina’s album release followed Idol winner Scott McCreery's debut album, “Clear as Day,” which charted No. 1 on iTunes on its Oct. 4 release, but has since dropped into second place below “Wildflower.” Out of all the iTunes genres, “Wildflower” ranked a respectable third on Tuesday. Alaina’s new single, “Georgia Peaches,” written by Mallory Hope of Cohutta, Ga., also hit the airwaves this week.

Promotion for the album may be a bit of a whirlwind for the teen star, which began bright and early 4 a.m. Tues-day with a guest appearance on “Good Morning, America.” From there, the young superstar has created a media frenzy all over the nation, with appointments to make the rounds at all the top spots of Hollywood, including a chat with “Regis and Kelly” on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. and a guest appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Fri-day, Oct. 12, set to air locally at 4 p.m. on WRCB-TV Channel 3. Great American Country (GAC) Network will also air “Introducing Lauren Alaina” on Friday, Oct. 14, at 10:30 p.m., which showcases Alaina’s career from a small-town Georgia singer to “American Idol” runner-up.

In a recent interview with GAC, Alaina was very appreciative for the opportunities she’s experienced and re-flected over all the hoopla and what it might mean for her in the long run.

“I feel like people are going to continue to get to watch me grow up. It's cool that I have been able to meet so many people that I otherwise would have never been able to meet. I have been able to accomplish so many goals, like being on American Idol and releasing a single and now my first album. I know there is more to come in the fu-ture and I can't wait to see how everything unfolds.”

How would you rate Lauren Alaina's debut album?
