Jessie Ruth Gilreath Baumbach, LaFayette

Jessie Ruth Gilreath Baumbach of LaFayette died June 2, 2011.

Ruth was born in Karuizawa, Japan, to missionary parents Jessie Annie and James Kellum Levie, who were serving in Kangju, Korea. With the onset of World War II the family returned to the U.S., residing in LaFayette. In 1945, she married Eugene Gilreath and they served many years, pastoring in Georgia, Texas, Kentucky and Tennessee. Eugene died in 1973. In 1982, Ruth moved to Oregon to live with her daughter Shirley and family, and later married Joseph Baumbach.

In her last months, Ruth was still teaching a Bible class and playing the piano for the residents who shared her home at St. Andrews Care Center. Devoted to her family and friends, she was loved by so many who will miss her.

Survivors include her son, Fred Gilreath and his wife, Sherry; daughters, Ann Bengston and Shirley Brendlinger and their husbands, Phil and Irv; her stepdaughter, Kris Damien and family; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Linda Gail Lassetter, 67, Rossville

Linda Gail Lassetter of Rossville died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in an Alabama hospital. She was 67.

She was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and a member of Victory Baptist Church. Mrs. Lassetter was a member of the Eastgate Senior Citizen Center and loved flower gardening and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Jim Lassetter, and parents, Gene and Elsie Phillips.

Survivors include son, Phillip (Tonya) Lassetter of Ft. Payne, Ala.; daughter, Karen (Greg) Crump of Ringgold; sister, Shirley Woods of Ringgold, and grandchildren, Lauren, Caroline and Katherine Crump and Jacey Obenlander.

Edwin E. Wallin, 66, Chickamauga

Edwin E. Wallin of Chickamauga died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in a local hospital. He was 66.

He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. Mr. Wallin was retired from Combustion Engineering after 38 years of service. He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Carole Morgan Wallin; son, Donnie Wallin of Chattanooga; daughters, Missy (Jeff) Stone, Lori (Joel) Nolen, all of Ringgold; brother, Maurice Wallin of Lawrenceville; sisters, Ruth Daniel of Flintstone, Reba Beagles of Chickamauga and Wanda Myers of Canton; grandchildren, Anna Grace Stone and Natalie Nolen, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Pauline Crosslin, 88, Knoxville, Tenn.

Mary Pauline Crosslin of Knoxville, Tenn., died Sunday, June 12, 2011. She was 88.

She had lived in the Chattanooga area for most of her life before moving to the Knoxville area in 2003. She was a member of the Rossville Church of God of Prophecy for more than 60 years and was currently a member of the Arrowhead Church of God of Prophecy in Knoxville. She was the church pianist for over 60 years and enjoyed playing many other musical instruments. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Crosslin, and son, Gary Paul Crosslin.

Survivors include her son, Terry Crosslin; two grandchildren, Colin and Kara Crosslin, all of Knoxville, Tenn., and numerous extended family and friends.

Herman Roberson Coulter, 87, Fort Oglethorpe

Herman Roberson Coulter of Fort Oglethorpe died Saturday, June 11, 2011. He was 87.

He was born in LaFayette to the late Roy S. and Ethel Hargraves Coulter on June 28, 1923. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Tabernacle and a retired route salesman with more than 30 years of service at Frito Lay. Mr. Coulter faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy and North Africa as a tank driver, receiving the Purple Heart.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Viola Coulter, and brother, Raymond Coulter.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Ancil and Karen Coulter of Ringgold and Phil and Cindy Coulter of Rock Spring; special friend, Estelle Broome of Rossville; five grandchildren, Kellen Coulter, Chris (Kellie) Coulter, Sara Beth Coulter, Caleb Coulter and Ellye Coulter, and great-grandson, Kyler Coulter.

Wanda Curd of Ringgold died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center. She was 82.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eulis Curd.

Survivors include her daughters, Anita Penney and JoAnn Evans; son, Lebron Curd; brothers, Jimmy, Donnie and Steve Dunwoody; sisters, Judy Bancroft, Debbie Scott and Linda Guinn; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Timmy (Tim) Glenn of LaFayette died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was 42.

Richard Henry Hixon Jr., 76, High Point

Richard Henry “Junior” Hixon Jr. of High Point died Saturday, June 11, 2011. He was 76.

He was born on Lookout Mountain to the late Richard Henry “Dick” Hixon Sr. and Verna Melinda Higdon Hixon.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ellen Haney Hixon, and a sister, Carolyn Morrow Talbott.

Richard had worked several years for Rock City in maintenance and was a longtime employee of J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home in Chickamauga. He was a lifelong resident of the High Point community and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed woodworking and making cabinets.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Joe Ross of Tunnel Hill and Sandra and Darren Rogers of High Point; grandchildren, Amber Rogers, Katie and Ken Ross; sister, Marthann (Grady) Wallin of Rising Fawn; brother, Leonard (Ann) Hixon Sr., of Lookout Mountain, and several nieces and nephews.

Weldon “Johnny” Johnson, 79, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Weldon “Johnny” Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was 79.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, retired from the U.S. Army after 42 years of service, and retired from Dupont in 1996 after 47 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Johnson; parents, James and Pearl Pinion Johnson, and brothers, James and David Johnson.

Survivors include his children, Don Johnson (Priscilla) of Ringgold and Tami Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, James (Angie), Brandon (Emily), Amanda and Renae Johnson; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Colton and Mackenzie, and several nieces and nephews.

Kimberly Lee Moorman, 48, Fort Oglethorpe

Kimberly Lee Moorman of Ft. Oglethorpe died Thursday, June 9, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was 48.

She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, was a member of Calvary Memorial Baptist Church and was employed at Park Place Restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Peggy Haley.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Mike Moorman; brother, Jack Haley of Woodstock, and several nieces and nephews.

Ben Eugene Poteet, 77, Tunnel Hill

Ben Eugene Poteet of Tunnel Hill died Saturday, June 11 2011. He was 77.

He was born in Ringgold to the late Frank E. and Rose Goodlet Poteet.

He was a lifelong resident of the Ringgold area and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Lowe’s Building Materials, where he worked in sales.

Along with his parents, he wass preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Brown, and brother, Bob Poteet.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kathryn Brown Poteet of Tunnel Hill; their children, Gary Robins of Hixson, Tenn., Pam Robins of Chattanooga, Tenn., Chris Jackson of Chattanooga and Mitch Poteet of Ringgold; grandchildren, Gary Robins II, Hunter Robins, Cara Freeman, Grant Freeman and Dylan Jackson; great-grandchildren, Easton Robins and Dalton Robins; brother, Harold Poteet of Trenton, and several nieces and nephews.

William “Bill” Harrison Brooks, 70, East Ridge

William “Bill” Harrison Brooks of East Ridge, Tenn., died Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was 70.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jess Willard Brooks; brother, Steve Brooks, and sister, Linda B. Moore.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later retired from Covenant Transport after 13 years of service as director of recruiting.

Survivors include his sons, Doug Brooks of Dalton and Kurt Brooks of Rostal, Germany; mother, Evelyn Brooks; sister, June Cox of Suwanee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

James Robert Lee, 84, Rossville

James Robert Lee of Rossville died Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was 84.

He was born August, 9, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He worked as a shipping clerk for Quaker Oats for more than 30 years and was an ordained minister, serving in many area churches. James enjoyed fishing, dogs, gardening and the Atlanta Braves.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hester Evelyn Lee; second wife, Joyce Hyatt Lee; parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his children, Jerry Brooks of Rock Spring, Eddie Sue Coleman of Rossville and Cheryl Sheivelhud of LaFayette; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Freeman Obery Moore, 67, Rossville

Freeman Obery Moore of Rossville died Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was 67.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., to the late Freeman and Juanita Hulett Moore on May 23, 1944. He lived the majority of his life in the Detroit area before retiring from the Department of Defense, where he worked as a civil engineer. He loved God and had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He attended Brainerd Baptist Church and was an avid sports fan and a former college hockey player for his alma mater, Michigan Tech.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Acton Vincente Pomante.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Michelle Moore of Oswego, Ill.; beloved mother of his son, Sarah Moore of Portland, Tenn.; brother, Craig Moore of Upland, Ind., and his soon-to-be grandbaby.

Memorial service: Monday, June 13, at noon. Visitation: Monday, June 13, from 11 a.m. until time of service in the stateroom at the funeral home chapel. Barry Gilreath Sr., 65, Ringgold

Barry Gilreath Sr. of Ringgold died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his residence. He was 65.

Mr. Gilreath was born in LaFayette March 18, 1946, son of the late Russell and Mattie Lee Gilreath of Summerville.

Mr. Gilreath was a longtime minister for the Church of Christ, and served congregations in the tri-state area. He was the founder of Gospel Broadcasting Network and served as executive director until his recent retirement. He had served as band director for several local schools. He was the founder and original director of the Wonderful Word Chorus, and organized various music festivals throughout the years.

He is remembered as a motivator, encourager and doer of good works. He is loved and missed by all whom he touched throughout the years.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Lenderman Gilreath; son and daughter-in-law, Barry Jr. and Jodi Gilreath of Florence, Ala.; daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Wayne Weaver and Melissa and Mike Frost of Ringgold; grandchildren, Barry III, Christi, Tyler, Nikki, Hannah and Holly Gilreath, Kayla and Seth Weaver, Alex, Avery, and Mallory Frost; great-grandchildren Aubrey and Kinsley Gilreath; sister, Peggy Cordell of Summerville; mother-in-law, Shirley Lenderman of Summerville, and other family members.

Charles Burnell Yancey, 82, Chickamauga

Charles Burnell Yancey of Chickamauga died Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was 82.

He was born in Dekalb County, Ala., and had lived in the Chickamauga area for most of his life. He was a member of Pilgrim Way Baptist Church in Chickamauga. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served in Okinawa, Japan, with the 524th Military Police Company. He retired from Dan River in 1985 after more than 25 years of service and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was an avid Alabama football fan, loved Coach Bear Bryant and enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Burma Yancey, and stepsister, Mageline Zerbe.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 61 years, Ruth Overby Yancey, Chickamauga; sons and daughters-in-law, David (Judy) Yancey of Rossville, William (Ann) Yancey of Chickamauga, Curtis (Faye) Yancey of Harrison, Tenn., and Michael Yancey of Chickamauga; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat (Gary) Strickland, Joan (Calvin) Hale and Kim (Mike) Angel, all of Chickamauga; stepsister, Opal Fay Woody of Winston Salem, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren — thank you, Taylor, his little sweetheart, for your love and care of your Pawpaw — and numerous friends and relatives that he adored.

William Wayne Tracy, 75, Hueytown, Ala.

William Wayne Tracy of Hueytown, Ala., formerly of LaFayette, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was 75.

Wayne was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant at the 117th Air National Guard Refueling Wing, Birmingham, Ala., following 34 years of service serving in the Bessemer and Hueytown area. He touched many lives through his work and enjoyed serving his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Virginia P. Tracy, and brothers, Paul and Harold Tracy.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ann Tracy; their son, Michael Wayne Tracy; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and J.P. Parker of Fort Oglethorpe; brother, Donald Tracy of LaFayette, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Virginia Mae Levan, 84, Chickamauga

Virginia Mae Levan of Chickamauga died Monday, June 6, 2011. She was 84.

She was born in Nyack, N.Y., to the late Mervin Leroy and Helen Mae Rowell.

She was preceded in death by her sons, John and Joel “Jay” Levan, a brother and several sisters.

Virginia was a member of Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church in Chickamauga, where she was also a member of the Joy Sunday school class.

Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Joel Levan Sr. of Chickamauga; children, Patty Ceccotti of Chickamauga and David (Carol) Levan of Michigan; siblings, Jean Harris of Texas and Ken Rowell of New York.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Anna Grace Shell, 81, Ringgold

Anna Grace Shell of Ringgold died Monday, June 6, 2011. She was 81.

She was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and a member of Boynton Baptist Church. Mrs. Shell and her late husband, Richard Ward Shell, owned the Totten’s T.V. & Appliances in East Ridge, Tenn., for many years and had worked at Rossville Bank prior to owning her own business.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. H. “Bill” and Agnes Hayes Williams.

Survivors include her brother, Paul H. (Wanda) Williams of Hixson, Tenn.; sisters, Nellie Ruth Novak of Cleveland, Tenn., and Bunny (Jim) Clark of Ringgold, and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth L. Tapp, 63, Rock Spring

Kenneth L. Tapp of Rock Spring died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, peacefully in a local hospital. He was 63.

He was co-owner along with his brother, Donnie Tapp, of Tapp Air Conditioning and Heating Company. Mr. Tapp was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Frances Tapp.

Robin Gail Warren of Ringgold died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at her residence. She was 54.

She had been a resident of Chattanooga, Tenn., and north Georgia for the past 25 years. Mrs. Warren was of the Baptist faith and loved her animals.

Dannie Wills, 52, Fort Oglethorpe

Danny Wills of Fort Oglethorpe died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in a local hospital. He was 52.

He was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and was employed with Wills Brothers Body Shop in Rossville and Lookout Mountain Peterbilt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Lewis Wills Sr.

Suzanne (Susie) Falkenberry Stilwell, 41, Chickamauga

Suzanne (Susie) Falkenberry Stilwell of Chickamauga died Sunday June 5, 2011. She was 41.

She born in Valley, Ala., on Dec. 3, 1969, and died in Valley, Ala. She was a loving daughter, mother and dear friend to everyone she came in contact with. She had a vibrant, bubbly personality and possessed a rare gift of being a true genuine friend.

She graduated from Troup County Comprehensive High School in 1987. She attended Troy University in Troy, Ala., and received her degree in education from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. She taught in the Walker County (Ga.) and Hamilton County (Tenn.) schools and was very much loved by all her students and fellow teachers. Susie was an avid reader, writer and journalist who had worked for and had her stories and articles published in the Walker County Messenger in LaFayette and Calhoun Times in Calhoun. Among her many other talents, she was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful quilts for her family members and many friends.

Survivors include her three sons whom she adored, Seth Bone, 16, John Stilwell, 8, and Tommy Stilwell, 4, and her husband Don Stilwell, all of Chickamauga; her loving parents Billy and Bonnie Falkenberry of Fort Oglethorpe; her sister Sarah (Conrad) Fernandez of Dalton; her brother Tommy (Stephanie) Falkenberry of Newnan; three nephews, two nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her precious infant daughter Bonnie Rose Stilwell.

She was of the Episcopal faith and attended the Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe. She was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Point, Ga.

Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Visitation: McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point on Thursday, June 9, from 5-8 p.m.

Jimmy Bedford Cardin of Rome died Saturday, June 4, 2011. He was 82.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ida Cardin, and sons, Jimmy B. Cardin Jr. and Donnie H. Cardin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Bloodworth Cardin; daughters, Penny Hughs of Florida and Peggy Cardin of Madison; sons, Doug Cardin of Ringgold, Steve Cardin of Tunnel Hill and Tommy Cardin of Florida; brother, E.J. Cardin, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Nell Barrett Mullis, 82, Chickamauga

Marjorie Nell Barrett Mullis of Chickamauga died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 82.

She was recently a member of Simpson Memorial Methodist Church and was previously a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she was very active and volunteered much of her time and energy on various committees.

Marjorie “Nell” was very adventurous and active in her younger years. She took flying lessons, rode motorcycles and drove fast. She waterskied fearlessly on Lake Chickamauga. She was a fun-loving, very special person. In her later years, she loved tending her flowers and precious great-grandchildren. Marjorie was loved by family and friends and will be missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known here.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Mullis; her parents, James and Effie Barrett, and brothers, James, Bobby and H. D. “Boss” Barrett.

Survivors include her only child, Glenda; son-in-law, Elliott; granddaughter, Stacey; grandson, Adam; great-grandchildren, Brendan, Natalie, Victoria and Alexander; sister, Betty Mann; brothers, George and Charles Barrett; sisters-in-law, Irene Barrett, Betty Barrett, Laura Mullis and Nancy Kerr, and many beloved family members and friends.

Barbara Jean Strickland of Sequatchie County died June 5, 2011. She was 67.

She had lived most of her life in the LaFayette area before moving to Sequatchie County in 1995, and was of the Church of God faith. She loved animals and enjoyed reading and watching television.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Helen Strickland, and her sister, Jean Strickland Day.

Randy “Pop” Oscar Swaney, 52, Ringgold

Randy “Pop” Oscar Swaney of Ringgold died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at a local hospital. He was 52.

A resident of the Ringgold area for most of his life, he was a sub-contractor in construction for 36 years and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Douglas and Ruby Lee Hanley Swaney, and brother, Doug Swaney.

Annie Elizabeth Blevins of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Saturday, June 4, 2011. She was 24.

Annie was born in Chattanooga and was a graduate of LaFayette High School. She was a student at Chattanooga State. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church on Suck Creek Mountain.

Sarah Winona Bledsoe

Sarah Winona Bledsoe died Sunday, June 5, 2011.

She was born July 11, 1926, in LaFayette. She was a graduate of LaFayette High School, class of 1943. She was married to Rev. Robert L. Bledsoe on April 20, 1945. She and her husband enjoyed many years serving their Lord through ministry with the Nazarene Church. After Mr. Bledsoe’s retirement from the Nazarene Church, Mr. and Mrs. Bledsoe owned and operated the Lew-Winn Hosiery Mill in LaFayette for several years.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charlie and Cora Shipp; grandson, Rickey Floyd, and brother, J.W. Shipp.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Robert L. Bledsoe; son, Robert J. “Jerry” Bledsoe (Carolyn); daughter, Sarah R. “Becky” Floyd (Rick); brother, LaDon Shipp; grandchildren, Kellie Bledsoe Malin (Doug), Stacy Bledsoe (Michele), Stephanie Kay Davis (Eddie), Tricia Kay Booth (Anthony) and Christina Floyd; great-grandchildren, Masilin Bledsoe, Kristen and DeLaney Malin, Devon and Dory Davis, Landon Booth and Wyatt Booth, Daisha Goff, Katy and Nathaniel Floyd, and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis Alvin Beard, 40, LaFayette

Dennis Alvin “Big Al” Beard of LaFayette died Wednesday, June 1, 2011. He was 40.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Feb. 9, 1971. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and a former security guard with Burns Security. Dennis enjoyed fishing, horses and the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Beard.

Survivors include his mother, Helen Davis Beard of LaFayette; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Vickie Beard of LaFayette; sister and brother-in-law, Danielle and Doug Morrison of Chickamauga; seven nieces and nephews, Tyler, Brady and Kristen Beard, Hannah and Dylan Morrison and Carma and Cloie Dobson.

Zella Kibble Shields

Zella Kibble Shields died Friday May 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. with family present.

She was kindhearted and soft-spoken. She was so much fun to be around with her contagious smile and beautiful bright blue eyes. She was the best cook ever, especially biscuits. For the short 11 weeks she lived with us, she brought us great joy and truly touched our lives, and that is a gift we will always be thankful for. We have no doubt she now resides in Glory and has been given a crown.

Survivors include her sisters, Flora McGowan and Carol Cate; brother, Newell Kibble; stepson, Phillip and his wife, Renee Shields.

Randall Lee York of Ringgold died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of Catoosa County and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. York retired after 33 years from Mohawk Industries, formerly Galaxy of Fort Oglethorpe. Mr. York enjoyed motorcycles, fishing with friends, gardening and cooking.

He was preceded in death by his father, Enoch Burton.

Shirley Ann Gordy of Chattanooga, Tenn., died Monday May 30, 2011, with her family around her while in hospice care at Memorial Hospital. She was 63.

Born in Ringgold to Nell Peters Gordy and Hubert Gordy, Shirley was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Chattanooga and was employed as a legal secretary with Leitner, Williams, Dooley and Napolitan, PLLC. She enjoyed singing with her church choir and with the Joyful Noise.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Della Mae Hembree of East Ridge, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 31, 2011. She was 93.

She was a native of Jasper, Tenn., and had lived most of her life in East Ridge, where she had been a member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church. Her passions in life were her family, enjoying the outdoors and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, M. Sgt James R. Hembree, and seven brothers and sisters.

Elbert A. “Drew” Kuritz, 67, Ringgold

Elbert A. “Drew” Kuritz of Ringgold died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in a local hospital. He was 67.

He was a native of Spartanburg, S.C., and had been a resident of north Georgia for the past 22 years. Drew was a well-known area salesman best known as the “Purseman,” and was affiliated with Tootsie Hair and Nails. He was a Christian, Russian Orthodox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Harris Kuritz.

Stanley “Tom” Short of Rossville died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in a Nashville, Tenn. hospital. He ws 63.

A native of Coalmont, Tenn., Tom had been a resident of Rossville for most of his life and was employed with Big Horn for several years. He was a nature enthusiast and loved to hunt and fish.

Audie Lee Sloan of Fort Oglethorpe died Sunday, May 29, 2011. She was 80.

She was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Zeke and Arkie Nichols; her husband, George Millard Sloan, and two brothers, Ralph and Fred Nichols.
