As the tornado recovery process in Catoosa County continues, the Georgia Forestry Commission is addressing another remaining concern — wildfire prevention.

According to a news release from Catoosa County government, a wildfire prevention team consisting of agencies from the Georgia Forestry Commission, U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service will hold a public meeting at the Catoosa County Board of Commissioners’ meeting room in Ringgold on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m.

The team is seeking input from government officials as well as citizens in an attempt to prevent wildfires in our area. Any property owners or government officials who have knowledge of locations that would be considered high-risk for wildfire due to remaining tornado debris are encouraged to attend and communicate those locations to the team.

The team will conduct property assessments in these affected areas and provide education and advice to the community in order to protect lives and property that are at risk from wildfire.
