Former LaFayette High School tennis standout, Tyler Cobb, has signed a letter of intent to attend Reinhardt University in the fall and play tennis for the Eagles in the spring of 2012 under head coach Jennifer Sackman.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Cobb comes to Reinhardt as a transfer from North Georgia College & State University after playing at Marion (Ala.) Military Institute. He is a 2008 graduate of LaFayette and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

“Tyler is a mature player who has played college tennis,” Sackman said. “He’ll help us on and off the court. He’s very likeable and knows the game well. He’ll be near the top of our lineup and be a key player for us.”

Cobb, the son of Logan and Janet Cobb, is working this summer as a member of the tennis staff at Falling Creek Camp in Tuxedo, N.C. He did not compete in tennis at North Georgia, but was named to the dean’s list there.

He was on the tennis team for two years at Marion Military. As a sophomore playing No. 3 singles, MMI was the Alabama Community College Conference runner-up and went on to finish 13th nationally at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I national tournament.

In his freshman season of 2008-09 as the Tigers’ No. 2 singles player, Cobb was a team captain who went undefeated in conference matches en route to an ACCC championship.

He was a four-time letter winner for LaFayette at the No. 1 singles position, posting a 49-8-1 overall record and making two appearances in the state tournament.

“I felt it was a good choice and everything just fell into place,” Cobb said of Reinhardt. “It’s a nice campus. I like the setup because it’s not too big and not too small. I plan on studying business administration with a marketing concentration.”
