A Ringgold man was arrested for DUI in Fort Oglethorpe after a routine traffic stop revealed he was driving around drinking vodka.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Bradley Nelson Hays, 29, of Fox Trot Trail in Ringgold, was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 25, on charges of DUI, driving with an open container of alcohol, and no headlights.

Hays was initially pulled over for having a headlight out, at which time it was observed that he was under the in-fluence of alcohol and had an open bottle of Grey Goose vodka in his right rear floorboard, reports show.

“While speaking with the driver, I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the interior of the vehicle,” officer James Clark wrote in the report. “I asked him if he had been drinking, to which he responded ‘no.’ I then asked him to hand me what was in the bag located in the floorboard, at which time he handed me the brown paper bag containing a bottle of vodka. He (Hays) then changed his prior statement and told me that he had been drinking the vodka.”

Hays then attempted to perform a standardized field sobriety test, which he failed, reports show.
