A LaFayette man is facing a theft charge after he left his cell phone at the scene of the crime, police say.

According to LaFayette Police Department:

Christopher Michael Anderson of 1007 Colerain St. has been charged with theft from an auto. He was arrested Oct. 19.

Anderson left his cell phone in the vehicle from which he stole two XBox games, valued at $85.

The victim is an employee at McDonalds at 1101 N. Main St., where the theft occurred on Sept. 3. The employee discovered an unfamiliar cell phone in her vehicle.

A number of missed calls on the phone led the employee to its owner, who identified himself as Chris. He was interested in getting his phone back, not remembering where it had been lost. The victim agreed to meet him at the McDonalds. She recognized the phone’s owner as Chris Anderson, an acquaintance of her aunt.

Surveillance tapes were reviewed at a later date and were added as evidence in the theft.
