This collection of family-friendly comedy sketches, a ballet number and plenty more will be performed at The Colonnade Jan 27-28 and showcases an array of local talented performers.
“Vaudeville” will take its audience back to a time before television or radio, a time when generations of family gathered together for a few hours at a time to share laughs and enjoy an escape with clowns, magicians, singing and dancing.
Performances will be held at The Colonnade in Ringgold on Jan. 27 and 28 at 1 p.m. (matinee) and 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are: $11 adult admission, $9 seniors (age 55 and older), $9 students, $8 for groups of 15 or more. Director Dakota Brown said “Vaudeville” will be his first production at The Colonnade and it has been his “dream show” for years, a dream that began with a gift from his grandmother.
“My grandmother gave me a VHS tape as a last-minute gift many years ago. It was ‘Red Skeleton: America’s Clown,’” said 24-year-old Brown from Ooltewah, Tenn. “I watched it, rewound it, and watched it again, laughing both times. It became a forgotten piece of my mess of videotapes, but it never left me. It elbowed its way into my subcon-scious and stayed there, constantly shaping and reshaping my humor and outlook.
“In high school, I wrote a pantomime for a competition based on Red Skeleton’s, ‘A Fool and His Feather.’ It did well, but ended up meaning more. The piece soon became the catalyst for my career. It was the vehicle that drove me here — from my actor’s training to multimedia ad campaigns, to Second City, and through the founding of Over the Counter. It led me here. ‘Return to Vaudeville’ is the culmination of every moment I’ve spent on stage and in front of the camera. “It’s been an unrealistic dream that has somehow, through the years, molded in reality.
