With lead changes throughout the first half, the eight-man Georgia Northwestern Bobcat squad kept the 15-man Sewanee roster close at the break, but a different rotation of plays broke things open in the second stanza on the mountain as the NCAA Division III Tigers (12-9) found a way to push past the junior college newcomers, 61-47.

A late press in the first half kept the Cats in the ball game as they trailed 29-21 at intermission. Freshman Bobcat Justin Dempsey would throttle the Sewanee rims for a momentum changing dunk late in the half to keep things honest, and sniper Ben Patton would drop a pair of threes in the first twenty minutes to lead the way in the opening half.

But it was Sewanee’s game in the second half as Tiger gunner Tyler Brown would lead the way with 11 points in the non-region game. Dempsey would show impressive numbers for GNTC with seven points, eight rebounds, and three steals in the road test at the University of the South.

Patton and Bud Todd would drop in 11 points in the loss. The Bobcats get did back freshman standout Alex Miller, who had been out due to a bout with food poisoning. Miller, a usual starter for the Bobcats, played 22 minutes on Monday.

GNTC (7-15, 0-6) returns home for a game Thursday night with Freewill Baptist at the Rossville Athletic Center. The Lady Bobcats will make a rare appearance in Rossville to open the night, also against Freewill.
